A Bite & a Blether is an Eddleston Parish Church outreach programme, started in 2015 by Lorraine Mulholland, Session Clerk and Organist who sadly passed away in 2020. The recent revival of the initiative has been a welcome return to the community and much enjoyed by everybody.
Held in Eddleston Village Hall on Wednesdays from 12.00pm – 1.30pm, at a cost of £3, a Bite & a Blether offers a friendly and affordable opportunity to share a table with neighbours and friends from the community over a bacon roll, cake tea and coffee.
The volunteers who run the lunch make everyone feel most welcome and it has proved hugely successful in its aim of bringing people together for ‘food, friendship and fun’.
Back in 2015, Lorraine Mulholland said ‘the lunch has really demonstrated how good old fashioned ‘Community Spirit’ is vitally important to people in today’s fast moving, transient society. It gives people of all ages, from all backgrounds the chance to relax together and share stories, skills and interests. We are also happy to welcome those who just wish to pop in for a quick bite to eat on their way somewhere else.’
A local resident and regular attendee says “I know I have a regular date in my diary to meet up with friends. I look forward to going and it means I never feel lonely. Having got to know more of my neighbours, I feel safe in the knowledge that there are lots of people looking out for one another and willing to offer help if needed”.
