Eddleston & District Community Council exists to promote the wellbeing of the local community and to represent the interests of residents to Scottish Borders Council and other public authorities. Our northern boundary is at Leadburn and our southern boundary is at Nether Kidston, just south of Cringletie. Our area includes the settlements at Harehope, Stewarton, Wormiston, Hattonknowe, Cringletie, Wilkieston, Windylaws, Darnhall, Courhope, Cloich, Shiplaw, Portmore, Waterheads, Cowieslinn, West/East Loch, Nether Falla, Millennium Farm and Kingside.
EDCC is non-political in nature and formed of local residents who act as community councillors for a period of three years. EDCC’s views are taken into account on all major planning applications, and it is given the opportunity to comment on a wide range of SBC reports at the draft stage.
Meetings of the Community Council take place (in person in the Village Hall or by ZOOM) every month during the school year – usually on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm. The CC won’t normally meet in July or December, unless there’s an issue of significance needing discussed. Email: edcc@eddleston.org.uk
Community Council meetings are open to the public and issues can be raised in advance, by email or in-person on the night. Our local SBC councillors attend meetings on a rota basis. As well as allowing residents to speak directly to them, councillors can also advise on the best mechanism for approaching SBC on different issues.
We receive a small grant of around £700 from Scottish Borders Council each year which is spent on village projects and small grants as well as operating costs.
Recent issues the CC has been working on include:
- Benches – Securing grant funding and organizing provision of 3 new benches and repair of 5 others in November 2024.
- Orchard – Organising funding and purchase of six Scottish Heritage Fruit Trees to replace the storm-felled apple tree. These were planted by volunteers in March 2025.
- Traffic calming in Station Road – Setting up meetings between residence , SBC and road planners.
- Resilience Planning – Coordinating planning for village response to adverse events. Circulating information during events like storm, flood etc.
- Eddleston Water Path – monitoring the timeline for construction and advocating on behalf of residents on safety features. Liaising in provision of Benches.
- Eddleston School – engaging with SBC as part of the review process and current negotiating access to facilities for the community.
- Eddleston website – funding the new site and helping compile content
- Village Hall broadband – we’ve restored broadband to the village hall to enable hybrid meetings in future
