Eddleston Curling Club was formed in 1856 and joined the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in November of that year. Initially there were at least 6 outdoor curling ponds around Eddleston, one in the village as well as Hattonknowe and Harcus pond, Portmore. The club celebrated its 150th Anniversary in 2006 and a series of events was held to celebrate that auspicious achievement. We now look ahead to another 150 years!
Membership is drawn from the village and surrounding area and the club is an active member of Peeblesshire Province, playing alongside clubs from Broughton, Peebles, Peebles Ladies, Newlands and West Linton. Curling games take place at CurlEdinburgh in Murrayfield Curling Rink in Edinburgh.
Anyone interested in trying the “Royal and Ancient Game” of curling either on a casual basis or as a member of the club is invited to get in touch with Secretary Graeme Rodger (01721 722061) or Treasurer Archie Smellie (01721 730282).
The club would be pleased to arrange a “Try Curling” session to provide a great taster to the sport with an introduction to the basics and information on how the game is played. Many sessions are free and last approximately one hour.
